I was chatting with a client the other day and she asked me when and what I have for breakfast.
It got me thinking about what is often dubbed as the most important meal of the day …🤔
For some, it could be.
If you wake up hungry, skipping it is probably not wise. 🦉
Some find that doing so leads them to overeat, maybe even binge, later in the day which can create feelings of guilt which is never a good thing. 😥
For others, the thought of eating first thing is not appealing, they have enough energy to see them through to lunch so skipping breakfast (or rather delaying it…) is preferable.
These are often people who eat their main meal later in the evening so their hunger doesn’t kick in upon awakening. 🛌
Either way is totally fine!
Skipping breakfast will not damage your metabolism just as having it won’t boost it – yes, believe it!!
The key is to make sure that you have enough energy to get you through the day and that you listen to your body. 👂
Personally, I don’t get hung up on it.
If I wake up hungry, I have breakfast.
If not, I don’t.
No rules, just simple flexibility.
If you can get to work and then through to lunch without temptation kicking in – AWESOME! pusing your first meal of the day back can be a great way to reduce Calories.
If, however, the croissants at the train station or muffin trolley at 11am are just too hard to resist, then you need to rethink your morning decision-making process.
As for the perfect breakfast….well, it doesn’t exist! Eat what you fancy and what is in line with your goals, if you have any. 🥅
There is, however, some evidence to suggest that a high protein breakfast can combat cravings, and therefore overeating, later on in the day. 🍳
